Similarities and Differences Between my Movie Posters (Zombieland)

Movie poster 1

Why we're still living for 'Zombieland' - Film Daily

Movie poster 2

Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) - IMDb

Similarities or comparisons between movie poster 1 & movie poster 2

Compare- what is the same?

Firstly, both posters have the same characters in them.

Secondly, the sky in both posters is dark and cloudy.

Next, the characters are holding weapons.

Lastly, the title is the same colour.

Contrasts or differences between movie poster 1 & movie poster 2

Contrast- what is different?

Firstly, one is on a highway, the other isn’t.

Secondly, the characters are standing in a different order in both posters.

Next, they're holding different weapons in the two posters.

Lastly, one has double tap and the other one doesn't.

Analysis of my Two Movie Posters (in Detail)

Movie Poster A

Background:

In the background we can see a grey sky covered by white clouds or fog, it is a bit hard to tell.

Why we're still living for 'Zombieland' - Film Daily

Writing (font & colour):

The font type is capitalized, bent (it makes it look 3D) and coloured in red/orange. It is placed in the middle of the poster and covers the movie characters on the poster partially.

Midground:

The dominant image is the four main characters of the movie: two men and two women. They are all looking straight at the viewer. The man on the very left of the poster is holding a shotgun, the man next to him is just standing there in a somewhat uneasy way. The woman in the middle is holding a bloody chainsaw and the girl on the right is placing a shovel on her shoulders. They all look “grumpy” and tense.

That’s Interesting:

The images on the poster are all different shapes of  black/brown/grey/white; there’s orange/red tones in the font of the movie title and on the bloody chainsaw.

The target audience are older teenagers and adults as the movie is rated 16+ and contains a lot of violence and curse language.

Foreground:

The title of the movie is in the foreground. It covers the people on the poster partially.

Overall Mood:

The overall mood is “dark” and gloomy; the characters on the poster do not look happy and as they all have weapons in their hands/over their shoulders, we expect something horrible to happen in the movie.

Movie Poster B

Background:

The movie poster is displaying characters that are standing on a highway. In the background we can see a highway sign and a monster truck. Next, we can see a dark blue/greyish sky with fog covering the background.

Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) - IMDb

Writing (font & colour):

The names of the actors are written in a big, yellow and big, all letters are capitalized. The names of the four main actors are displayed over their heads in the grey, foggy sky.

The title of the movie is written in capital dark orange letters on the highway (below the four people).

The names of the cast, director, etc. are written in a smaller (also capitalized) white font that is quite thin and “squashed” font.

Midground:

In the midground we can see four characters (two women and two men) standing on a highway. The woman on the left has her right knee bent and her head tilted and has an AK in her hand, the man next to her is wearing a cowboy hat, a shotgun on his belt and is pointing a baseball bat at the viewer. The woman in the middle is holding a tommy gun and the man on the right of the poster is holding a shotgun. They are all wearing jeans and leather jackets, all coloured in black/grey/army shades. They all have a moody or “grumpy” expression on their faces and look aggressive and ready to fight.

That’s Interesting:

There are four people with weapons, I am asking myself in what kind of situation they find themselves in. Why do they need guns? What are they doing on the highway all alone? Why is there a monster truck in the background?

Foreground:

In the foreground of the poster we can see the highway and the title of the movie (as well as the names of the actors/producers, etc.).

Overall Mood:

The overall mood of the poster is dark and “gloomy”, we are facing four people holding weapons (one is even pointing his weapon at us) on a lonely highway. We get the feeling something bad will happen.

Baby bird caterpillar: Cinereous mourner chicks mimic toxic moth ...

Cinereous mourner

Deep in the Amazonian rainforest, researchers came across an elusive bird’s nest and decided to film it. As the video above shows, when a chick hatched, they saw a creature that looked and behaved more like a toxic moth caterpillar than a baby bird. It was excellent at mimicry; fooling its natural predators, like monkeys and snakes, into believing that it is a toxic caterpillar. This species of birds is called cinereous mourner. It's the first species of birds that have been observed by humans to pretend to be something they are not. It is very hard to find because of its remote habitat.A Baby Bird Behaves Like a Caterpillar - YouTube

Flashlight Fish

Teen studies living flashlights of the deep | Science News for ...

The flashlight fish lives in deep canyons in the ocean and loves the darkness. It has a dark brown/dark grey colour. Underwater it collects a special type of bacteria that glows in the darkness and stores it in a little pouch at the bottom of its eye; it has an eyelid which can close to cover the bacteria and stop it from glowing. Once the fish opens its eyelid, however, the little pouch starts to glow (their usual state). Flashlight fish close their eyelids when a predator comes near them in order to leave him in darkness and escape.

Mimic octopus

The mimic octopus – a master of disguise | Not Exactly Rocket Science

The mimic octopus is able to change its color, size, shape and form in order to scare other predators. For example, it can change to look like a sea snake or a starfish, both of whom are very dangerous and poisonous sea animals. It is reputed to be able to take the form of 15 other sea creatures. This type of octopus is found in Indonesia and in the Great Barrier Reef. It was first discovered in 1998.

Summary: Firstly, the mimic octopus can change its colour, size, shape and form to mimic 15 other sea creatures to scare predators away. Secondly, it lives in Indonesia and the Great Barrier Reef. Lastly, it was discovered in 1998.

(65 words) 3Overall Mood (The Dark Horse) The overall mood of this poster is sadness; apart from the colourful letters of the title, and a few colourful items (like the man’s pink crocs), the colours used in the poster and the posture and facial expression of the man look depressing or exhausted. He seems like he has almost given up on life and the wall that he is leaning against looks dirty and old on the edges. It seems like the title “The Dark Horse” with its happy-looking letters and the beautiful Maori drawings is the only joyful thing that the man has in his life. Maybe he is a brilliant chess player? Christchurch Street Art (Seal / Trash Can)

Unsealed' mural third in five city NZ pollution awareness tour ...

The significance of the objects and characters

In this street art I can see a seal, that’s half seal and half garbage bin; there’s garbage coming out of its half open belly.

The significance of the colours used

There are three main different colours, blue, green and orange/ochre; the colours used in this street art resemble the colours of the ocean and beaches.

The location of the art work and why it's important

The art work is located at a parking lot; that means that a lot of people can see it (e.g. people that drive to work, people that go for a walk, people that go shopping, etc.).

The picture above was taken from the website The Big Idea:

http://thebigidea.nz/stories/media-releases/211427-unsealed-mural-third-in-five-city-nz-pollution-awareness-tour

Comment of the artist, Tess Sheerin, on her artwork:

"Rubbish washes out to the ocean and animals are drinking up a sludge of plastics.

I hope these murals up and down the country will make people sit up and

consider these important environmental issues."

Karl the Cassowary

A cassowary roaming in a rainforest area.
In this blog post I am going to write about my mascot, which is a cassowary.
I chose this bird as my mascot as it is very dangerous and strong.
My bird is found in many countries, there are different types of cassowaries though. Some of them live in New Guinea, some in Australia, Yapen, New Britain and on the Aru Islands.
The bird is a good mascot for me as it is vicious, quite tall and strong -- just like me.
And they are afraid of only a few "things". Because they are so strong and dangerous their only natural predators are dingos and crocodiles (and humans, of course).
My bird is dangerous or special in many ways: Cassowaries are a velociraptor-like bird and they are believed to be very dangerous for humans and domestic animals. There are many reported cases of cassowaries attacking humans and severely injuring them, however, only two people are believed to have died from those attacks. The reason for the birds’ attacks was that they expected food (from humans) or defended their territory/themselves.
