Christchurch Street Art (Seal / Trash Can)

Unsealed' mural third in five city NZ pollution awareness tour ...

The significance of the objects and characters

In this street art I can see a seal, that’s half seal and half garbage bin; there’s garbage coming out of its half open belly.

The significance of the colours used

There are three main different colours, blue, green and orange/ochre; the colours used in this street art resemble the colours of the ocean and beaches.

The location of the art work and why it's important

The art work is located at a parking lot; that means that a lot of people can see it (e.g. people that drive to work, people that go for a walk, people that go shopping, etc.).

The picture above was taken from the website The Big Idea:

Comment of the artist, Tess Sheerin, on her artwork:

"Rubbish washes out to the ocean and animals are drinking up a sludge of plastics.

I hope these murals up and down the country will make people sit up and

consider these important environmental issues."

  1. Another great post Izac and one of the first in the class to complete the work that was set for the class. Well done finding the artist talking about the significance of her work. Make sure that all people in your group share the knowledge you found and once your group also update their work, see me for a CARE card for all of you.
